Finishing a Basement in NY?
Hi – My buddy is trying to finish his basement in Long Island. He ran in to a major issue getting a permit. He was told that his 3 windows is not enough to cover the 600 ish square feet and that he must have 8% of the sq ft of the finished area a window – that this is NY state law.
Anyone EVER here of this? I mean that’s like 12 windows needed in the basement? They told him his windows only covers about 120 sq ft….
He is deeply distraught – contractor was supposed to break ground Sat…. not happening now.
I’m remodeling a basement and want to put in a hallway. What is the minimum width it can be?

Work and Living Situation Problems?
I am currently working in a job on Long Island . I have a problem with my living situation, I can either pay a few hundred dollars a month, which I can’t really afford to pay, to live in a cramped basement on Long Island, where I have been living for the past two years, and not have any privacy or a private bathrrom, the only plus is it’s 10 minutes from work. Or I can live rent free at my grandmother’s spacious townhouse, which is in North Westchester , which is about 2 hors from work. I am very confused and need advice.
