Robkes Country Inn, located at 427 Fort Salonga Road in Northport Long Island New York, has been a neighborhood mainstay since opening its doors in 1961. Originally owned by Ernest and Mary Lou Robke, this very successful German bar and grill was famous for its burgers and fingertip steaks. In 1978, Louis Selvaggio from the Bronx took over as owner and head chef. He kept the old name, but also added a taste of Italy to the menu as Robkes evolved into a local trattoria. A Tribute to my mother who realized her dream of buying and restoring an old house as a B&B, but who now has alzheimer’s and lacks capacity to understand and enjoy her accomplishment. House is former HE Donnell (don-Nell) Estate in Eaton’s Neck, NY, a National Register landmark.
